At the end of 2020, Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold Parish Council started a Biodiversity Group. The main goals as mentioned in the terms of reference are:
- discuss and make observations, representations and actions regarding the structure of biodiversity for the villages, including, planting, rewilding, woodland areas etc...
- advise the Council of its activities and make recommendations to the Council about improvements which can be made
Villagers - already more than 20 of all ages are involved - will work on different topics such as wild flowering, biodiversity survey, beekeeping and tree planting.
Are you a keen observer or do you have knowledge of nature in general or special knowledge on one or more of the various taxa (categories) of wildlife? Then join our Biodiversity Survey Team. We go out in small groups to survey specific places in both villages. Or you can help us with your own observations. Our quest is to add recordings at the NatureSpot website to establish a good overview of the fauna and flora of Waltham on the Wolds and Thorpe Arnold.
We are starting a beekeeping project. For now we are gathering information and are looking for one or more spots to install one or more beehives. All options are still open. Are you interested in joining, can you share information or are you planning to keep bees yourself, please let us know.
